REUTERS -- Aug 15 -- News Corp. is considering buying closely held Web search provider Blinkx. Murdoch last week confirmed during an earnings conference call with analysts that the company was in advanced talks to buy a controlling interest in a Web search engine, which he would not identify, and that it had budgeted up to $2 billion for investments and strategic acquisitions.

Mark Brooks: News Corp. just bought Intermix which owns Myspace.
There has been alot of speculation about this deal and rightly so. Blinkx is a really interesting search engine. Smart folders and smart feeds on their desktop search are really clever and user friendly. They're video search is far better than Google, probably the bit that most tickles Murdochs fancy. These guys are thinking - I hope selling out to the media giant doesn't restrict they're innovation. But on the other hand a bit of high profile backing can't be a bad thing.
