CYBERSOC.COM -- Aug 8 -- Gina Ford instructed her solicitors to send a letter to the ISP hosting mumsnet, threatening to sue them for libel if they didn't cease hosting the community site for moms and expectant moms. Coverage of the story is going ballistic. Ford writes parenting books. Now her name has been in every major UK newspaper website and the story has reportedly run on TV. FULL ARTICLE @ CYBERSOC.COM
Mark Brooks: The site closed it's doors rather than deal with the suit. Shame.
I don\'t think this story is correct.
My understanding: The site didn\'t close its doors, it is still online, forums are still live... Just that they\'ve banned talk about Gina. Can\'t help but feel that it backfired for her.

The site didn't close it's doors, as Andrew commented above, it simply asked users not to discuss Gina Ford, the person making the libel threats through her solicitor.
Mumsnet did, according to some posts I've come across this morning, go down for a time but I'm guessing that's due to overwhelming traffic. The site was mentioned on every major UK television station and in every major UK newspaper yesterday, along with countless national radio programmes. It's really no surprise! ;-)
