OC METRO -- Apr 23 -- According to a recent report from UC Irvine, those who partake in online dating tend to observe racial stereotypes when searching for a mate. White men prefer Asian or Latina women, and white women prefer African-American and Latino men. The study suggests that white people hold the power when it comes to interracial dating. It is believed that the portrayal of racial stereotypes in film and television contribute to the dating preferences noted in the study.

Researchers analyzed profiles on Yahoo Personals of people ages 18-50 in Los Ángeles, New York, Chicago and Atlanta between September 2004 and May 2005 with some startling discoveries. Among them:
[Interracial dating is quite rare -interracial marriage is even more rare- but when interracial dating happens]
White men prefer Asian and Latina women to African-American women as [prospective] dating partners,
and
white women prefer African-American and Latino men over Asian men.
And Asians, African-Americans and Latinos were more likely to include white people as possible dates than white people were to include them.
This suggests that white people hold the power when it comes to interracial dating.
