OPW INTERVIEW -- Apr 18 -- "When you meet him, he comes off as a nice, sweet, romantic guy. It's all a scam. He is shameless. He'll pretend to be your loyal devoted boyfriend, but the moment you aren't watching him, he'll be sleeping around with someone else." So goes the testimonial to Mr. D. Timby on WomanSavers.com, the online men's database. "Research and rate before you date" - that's the advice of Stephany Alexander, CEO/Founder of WomanSavers.com. Here is our interview with Stephany.
What is the founding story of WomanSavers.com?
I started WomaSavers.com in 2002 after going through a series of bad relationships. Back then, there was nothing like it on the internet and we are still the first and oldest database of its type. I’ve experienced all forms of abuse including emotional, physical, sexual and verbal. I’ve been cheated on, lied to and stolen from and had a series of bad online dates so I definitely have personal experience. I wished I would have had the opportunity to speak to some of my exes girlfriends before getting involved. That’s when the idea to create a “little black book” for women on the internet hit me like lightning one afternoon while I was walking along the streets of Manhattan and I immediately began work on creating the database. The idea snowballed and WomanSavers.com quickly became very popular through word-of-mouth. Basically women talk amongst each other about their past relationships with men and say: “Hey I’m going out with this guy, you broke up with him, what is he like?” It is a free date screening service for women – a search engine that categorizes information entered by women for women.
I met celebrity Kim Kardashian last year at a party and she wanted to post her exes into the database and I’ve heard similar responses from women from all walks of life including First Lady Maria Shriver who wanted to use WomanSavers.com to screen her daughter’s dates. WomanSavers.com has had celebrity endorsements and has been featured in international newspapers, radio and on TV, including a 90-minute special on the E! Entertainment Channel called “Dating Nightmares” which is currently airing and will continue to air for the next five years to millions of viewers.
As a guy, what if I went out with someone and I don’t agree with what they said, do I have an ability to rebut that?
Yes you can post a free rebuttal at any time. There are both positive and negative comments in this database. What makes WomanSavers.com more than a gossip site is that the posters must agree to a processing fee to edit or delete their posts. This is one of the best moves our company ever made because it helps attract better quality posts. People think more seriously before hitting that submit button when there are fees involved. If we didn’t have this feature, our website wouldn’t be much more than an anonymous, gossip site. Our motto is the quality of a post is more important than quantity.
How many members do you have on the site?
There are over 40,000 men that have been entered into the database.
How do you make money?
From advertising, product and ebook sales and processing fees. There is a processing fee of $25 to delete a posting and $10 to edit it. WomanSavers.com has a women’s travel agency for women to get discounted travel reservations and a diet section where women can get discounted super foods so they can be healthy and empowered. I’m also the founder of a C-3O1 non-profit organization for abused women, children and animals. We’ve held national fundraiser events and raise awareness on important abuse issues. We will be holding our first conference in the near future.
Tell me about your book.
My book is called Sex, Lies and the Internet. It is an online dating survival guide that shows women how to screen their dates so they know how to date safer in this dangerous world we live in. A lot of women are just not being careful when they date, especially with online dating. The whole goal in life is to attract and surround yourself with good and trustworthy people and you can’t do that without doing some homework. My book shows you how to date safely in simple steps. I’m about halfway done with my second book which will help empower women in a whole new, different way.
What should people do if they’re looking at a potential partner?
Try to get a real first and last name as soon as possible. Once you have a full name and a birth date, you can do a full background to check to see if you’re involved with a convicted felon or somebody who is a bad egg. Websites like Intellius.com or KnowX.com can get you a full background check for under $50. If you are a single mother, you need to do a sexual predator search because pedophiles are known to date single mothers for access to their children. A good one is mapsexoffender.com which allows you to search by name or by your neighborhood which is very important because your children may pass these homes going to and from school, when trick-or-treating, etc… And then of course, always do a free character check on WomanSavers.com to see what a man’s past relationship history is.
My understanding was that you need the social security number to do a proper background search on someone.
No you don’t. You can get one on Intellius.com with minimal information.
What if some woman decides to write really negative things about a guy. Is there any recourse there for the guy? How does that work?
A lot of guys log onto our site and post a rebuttals because there are two sides to every story. The man also has the option to contact the author to open discussions. If a man is being libeled, he must approach the author legally.
But if lies are being made, that’s something we all should be standing against.
Absolutely. People need to think carefully before posting on the internet and that includes always telling the truth. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act states that a 3rd party provider can’t be held liable for what somebody else writes so the author is responsible and accountable for what they write. Always think before you write.
