ASIAMEDIA JOURNAL -- Sep 1 -- Network Ten is investing in free
Australian dating site Oasis Active. Network Ten currently holds just
under 40% of Oasis Active, with the remainder held by private
investors. Oasis Active commenced operation in April 2008 and its
international network of users is ~998,000, with average monthly growth
of 15% or more than 80,000 users. Oasis Active was developed and is
managed by 3H Group. 3H Group was founded by CEO Dave Heysen and CTO
Daniel Haigh. Mr Haigh previously established one of the largest
international online dating websites, Soulmates Technology, which was
acquired by match.com. FULL ARTICLE @ ASIAMEDIA JOURNAL
It's all good and well talking about user growth. The problem is Oasis Active is not a financially viable model. I do advertising for some of the largest Australian dating sites for a living and know what a site the size of Oasis Active would cost in traffic & infrasture and the worth of its Banner advertising. The truth is Oasis is losing money. And in my opinion Channel Ten are stupid - they run approx 1/2 million dollars worth in TV ads for Oasis totally free each month and for that if they get $10,000 back each month I would be exaggerating. If I was a Channel Ten shareholder I'd want the head of the idiot who made the deal. Oasis Active's ultimate future is to go broke.

It is odd that press release speaks of "Oasis Active heads towards the milestone of one million unique users worldwide" and " Oasis Active as it nears one million unique users". If it has 998,000 users and grows at 80,000 per month (2,666 per day) why wouldn't they just wait another day and say "over 1 million users". Fishy.
