NY TIMES - July 11 - Jennifer Davis Tarr is to be married today to Christopher Roger Coyne. Roger is working on the development of OkCupid.com, an Internet dating service, of which he is the president. He was a founder in 1999 of TheSpark.com, a humor Web site, and of SparkNotes, a series of condensed versions of classic literature, world history, math, economics and philosophy study guides. He also graduated from Harvard. Jennifer's father, when he was at Harvard in the 1960's, was a founder of the first computer dating service, called Operation Match, for which applicants would send in a paper form, which would be turned into punch cards and six weeks later they would get a list of names and phone numbers.' PR.COM - Oct 28 - In a recent survey of users, be2 found nearly a quarter of respondents were happy to give out their phone number after exchanging only one or two messages online and well over half after about two or three messages. Men proved more likely to want to exchange phone numbers early in an online relationship. In the survey 67.5% of male respondents said they gave out their number after about two or three messages or less. This contrasts with women, the majority of whom said they would wait considerably longer.

BC LOCAL NEWS - Oct 27 - A 66-year-old Delta man should serve five years and three months for running 240 fake dating sites that siphoned ~$650,000 U.S. from more than 1,000 people in Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain. Barrie Turner has been held in jail since his arrest in March. Customers paid $997 U.S. and more for membership in Turner dating sites that promised high-quality matches. Rather than dates, clients would get brush-offs when they emailed some suggested matches. The people who supposedly sent those messages were fake, created by Turner to string clients along by making them think they were simply unlucky at love when they were actually victims of fraud.

PROACTIVE INVESTORS - Oct 27 - IAC revenue increased 25% in the Q3 to $421.7M. Match.com posted a 31% increase in its sales to $106.2M, fueled primarily by organic growth at Match US and People Media, as well as by the acquisition of Singlesnet and the company's venture with Meetic in Latin America.
