KATU - Dec 4 - The cutting edge of dating now is virtual dating. Studies show people who do go on virtual dates are likely to have more successful relationships in person. Ravit Abelman from OmniDate says this is a way for singles on dating sites to get to know each other without the commitment of a date in person. You don’t have to get dressed; you don’t have to invest anything. You don’t have to take the risk.
I'm looking forward to OmniDate launching the feature that allows users to load a photo and have their avatar become lifelike. That's the 'killer app' for OmniDate.

Although I think virtual dating is pretty cool, I still prefer video chatting. Like virtual dating, I don't have to get all dressed up and go out. We can both sit and chat face to face from the comfort of our own home. The difference is I can acually see what he looks like, and he can see me. If you are too afraid to be seen, then how do you expect to ever transition the date into the real world. Anyhow, I also like Mark Brooks' idea of having the virtual avatars look more like the real people they are representing. Either way, OmniDate seems pretty cool to me.

I personally don't think that virtual dating is a good idea. There are already enough people pretending to be someone that they are not when instead they should be taking action to correct their shortcomings or emotional hang ups.
This video is a perfect example of that. The guy is obviously quite comfortable and honest in who he is, his Avatar reflects that. The woman on the other hand... come on, did you see the Avatar compared to how she really looked - I don't think I need to say anymore. I'm not being rude, but I just feel that people should be themselves and not pretend to be something that they are not. The personal development and health industry is now booming, you can get help with anything these days and all completely free!
