BIG THINK - Dec 15 - OkCupid’s blog is convincing readers that they should never pay for online dating. The basis of their argument is that there are just too few subscribers on fee-for-service dating sites to make it worth while. According to a study it turns out that a person’s preference for the online date is correlated with how much they had invested in the service. For example, the length of time men chose to commit to the date was 28 minutes when the cost was $0, and 49 minutes when the cost was $50. The length of time women in the study chose to commit to the online date was 13 minutes when the cost was $0, and 28 minutes when the cost was $50. FULL ARTICLE @ BIG THINK
Well, of course. "We don't value what doesn't cost us." It's as simple as that.

Simple question. Do you want to meet someone who can afford to pay $20 a month for a dating service? Or do you want to meet someone who is less able, or not committed enough to cough up?

Mark's right,as I peruse the profiles on these free sites(OK Cupid & POF/eVow)there's really no comparison between the selection of women to choose from and more importantly the quality as compared to Match.I won't even put a profile up on OK Cupid because the quantity/quality isn't there.(I live in suburban Chicago btw). Now they're trying to charge for eVow and it's the same people that are on POF for free...lol Good luck with that.POF is now trying to charge people 8 cents to see if their email has been "read"?? Is someone really going to pay 8 cents to see the words "read deleted" over and over again? The bottom line is you get what you pay for and most people especially women know that if they want a higher quality(status/value)guy he's going to be on Match where everyone else is because he can afford it and he's intelligent enough to know that's where the "quality" is.Oh and by the way there's no such thing as "free" online dating. It doesn't matter whether I meet a woman on Match or POF when I meet her for "a drink" it's still going to cost me 30 or 40 bucks or more....lol

Every time a paid site works, they LOOSE TWO PAYING CUSTOMERS.
So what they do is - they keep feeding you false hope, so you'll renew again and again.
OkCupid's article totally describes my experience with Match and Meetic.

"We don't value what doesn't cost us." is often true, but Internet services are becoming more and more "expected to be free", without necessarily worse quality. Google, Facebook, Twitter, Plentyoffish - all those brands change the "you get what you pay for" mindset on daily basis.
