KING5 - Mar 10 - A newly revealed Microsoft patent offers an online matchmaking service to the socially challenged. The service lets users confidentially tell the system about their private affinities – the kind of information that could cause some embarrassment if listed on their public profiles. Say you like comic books, but you don't want to admit that on your dating profile. You would list that interest privately, and then an algorithm would quietly match you up with someone else who likes comic books.

A key distinction between social networks and idating sites is privacy. SNS are not private. iDating sites are (by and large) private. Users can choose what information to show to potential dates, and have more flexibility for protecting their privacy and personas from singles. Some iDating sites are good. Some are not so good. So, buyer beware.
