CHICAGO TRIBUNE - Oct 9 - Datemyschool.com launched two years ago by two Columbia University business school students who found it difficult to meet women outside of their department. The site has 150K users at more than 1.3K four-year colleges and universities. The site is free for current students with a college email address. Alumni pay $9 a week.

A good name, a good niche, and a very fair pricing model make this a nice little business.

Ya Mark i know what your saying, but its about quality. There are roughly 600 active members both male and female.. it doesn't have the volume, plus college students dont date online, unless they are looking for a sugardaddy to get a free ride my opinion.

John,
On datemyschool there can't be fake profiles since we verify every single user via the school email address and other means if the user is not a student anymore and lost his/her .edu email account. We go even deeper and also verify all pictures, reports, etc manually.
Our value proposition revolves around privacy, safety and trust and in that regard to my knowledge no other site comes even close to what we do.
About the number of users: we put the number on our homepage, that comes directly from the database, no human intervention. I think very few dating sites are honest about user numbers, but we don't inflate them, since after logging in you will be able to check anyway while browsing profiles.
Keep in mind that user numbers vary in different states, we are strongest in the North East region of the US. Also, the number of users you see will depend on how restrictive you are with your privacy settings and also on how restrictive other users are. That is, every user may precisely select the schools, even departments, age range, etc. that he/she allows to access his/her profile.
Your comment about "college students dont date online", well, that's exactly what we try to change. At Columbia University one out of three students uses the site, at Harvard one out of five, at NYU one out of four... DMS is safer than meeting a random person in a bar and more efficient than the school library :).
Hope the above answers your concerns, and if you are in a state where our presence is not very strong yet, come back in a month or two since that will hopefully change as we roll out our new marketing initiatives across the US.
Best,
Balazs (co-founder)

Balazs, thanks for the statistics! I too was wary about the numbers but after some more research, DMS does have a true following with few privacy problems.
It's great to see online dating has found its way to a new niche! Keep up the good work, guys.
