For early startups flashcoms should do just fine. Their software can handle the traffic pretty good up until 200-300 concurrent users.
Why not try 123 Flash Chat, it is really the best replacement for Userplane, I was a Userplane user as well. Now I am using 123 Flash Chat, their support team did the installation and integration for me free, the users will be able to auto login the chat after integration, it is great. The price is also affordable and many different packages for you choose. The best part is when you buy the license, each package will comes with video/audio, this video chat software i like it very much.
You can check their current HTML chat demo, there are many new functions. http://www.123flashchat.com/html5chat/

Check out CometChat.com, they are running on large sites like SocialGo and Ning. Been using them on my forum and works great.
