PRESS RELEASE - Jan 26 - A study by sociologist Kevin Lewis of the interaction patterns of 126,134 U.S. users of OkCupid.com suggests that racial prejudice can be overcome, but we have a long way to go. Lewis found that people still self-segregate in online dating as much as they do in face-to-face interactions, most reaching out to those in their own racial background. However, if a person is contacted first by someone outside their race, their were more likely to contact others within that race. Thous Lewis found that the effect only lasted about a week.
