OPW - July 17 - The Federal Trade Commission enforces U.S. truth-in-advertising laws and has updated its FAQ page for its Endorsement Guides. Your Internet dating marketing teams need to be aware of the updates. Here's a few key takeaways from the update, pertinent to the Internet dating industry:
- Influencers must disclose a relationship to the product (whether they are receiving money or have invested in the company)
- Contests and sweepstakes rules need disclosure - Fake Facebook Likes are not acceptable
- Twitter tweets need to include the words 'Sponsored' and 'Promotion', 'Paid ad', 'Ad:' or '#ad'
- For YouTube videos, the disclosure must be made at the beginning of the video and preferably repeated multiple times for longer-form pieces.
