DAILYCALLER - Feb 3 - Uber filed a patent showing that it is exploring technology that would allow passengers to share rides through the UberPool feature with people who have certain similarities. In order to do this, Uber wants to "access social media data" and then "identify common links" between customers, according to the patent. The filing comes as a surprise since Uber updated its "Community Guidelines" in December to clamp down on sexual harassment. One of the new rules was the banning of flirting.

Mark Brooks: Oh God no! Does anyone want to comment on why this is such an inherently bad idea. Matching for networking is great. Matching for dating is a dud that will get Uber into hot water quickly. Uber has picked up some key people from the dating industry btw. Aaron Schildkrout was co-founder of HowAboutWe, which was acquired by Match in 2014 and he now works with Ed Baker who is VP Product and Growth at Uber and was previously CEO of Friend.ly which was acquired by Facebook in 2011. (Full Disclosure: Friend.ly is a former client of Courtland Brooks)
