DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL - Aug 25 - Dating-app users are set to jump by 18% in the U.S. this year to ~26M, according to eMarketer. That comes after a gain of less than 7% in 2019. Still, eMarketer pointed to a slower future after the pandemic of 2020. The number of American users is set to decline in 2021 by 8%.

The app which is designed to link Albanians in Albania and the diaspora, allowing them to match with potential love interests does not offer any option for same sex matches.

'OkZoomer' Is a Dating App for College Students
KENS5 - Aug 25 - "OkZoomer is a dating app for college students that was born because we were all kicked off of campuses back in March," said Ileana Valdez, creator of OkZoomer and senior at Yale University majoring in computer science. The dating app can also be used as a way to make new friends. New users need to verify they're a college student with school email. And they'll need to fill out a personality quiz. Then the algorithm does the work. So far, students from ~1,200 colleges around the world have signed up.

SENSORTOWER - Aug 24 - The top grossing dating app worldwide for July 2020 was Tinder with ~$68.5M in user spending. 40% of Tinder's revenue was from the United States, followed by 6% from Japan and 5% from Great Britain. Bumble was #2 with ~$16.8M in gross revenue. #3 was Pairs, followed by MeetMe and Badoo.

In February, he launched Butterfly, a transgender dating app that stops offensive terms being used within messages with the help of an auto-correction tool. A month later came Dinky One - a dating app for men who have small or micro penises. His latest invention is 20Dating, an app where users are only able to match with people who are 20 years older or younger.

Key Takeaways on Americans' Views of Dating and Relationships
PEW RESEARCH - Aug 21 - Dating has always come with challenges. But the advent of dating apps and other new technologies - as well as the #MeToo movement - presents a new set of norms and expectations for American singles looking for relationships, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey. Here are the kew takeaways:
- 15% of U.S. adults say they are single and looking for a committed relationship or casual dates.
- Nearly half (47%) of all Americans say dating is harder today than it was 10 years ago. Women are much more likely than men to say dating has gotten harder (55% vs. 39%). The reason is increased risk, including physical risks as well as the risk of getting scammed or lied to.
- Technology tops the list of reasons why people think dating has gotten easier in the last decade.
- A majority (57%) of women - and 35% of men - say they have experienced some kind of harassing behavior from someone they were dating or had been on a date with.

There Is a Dating App For Tesla Owners
BUSINESS INSIDER - Aug 21 - A techie in Canada is launching a dating app exclusively for owners of Tesla cars. It is called Tesla Dating. The idea came about after app creator Ajitpal Grewal noticed that Tesla owners couldn't stop talking about their cars. The app is still in the "early stages" of development. Since launching the website last week, ~160 people have signed up for the app's waitlist.

Dating Apps Are Growing and Becoming More Virtual
EMARKETER - Aug 21 - eMarketer forecasts the number of smartphone dating app users in the US will reach 26.6M this year, up 18.4% YOY. Dating apps began to see a lot more activity at the start of the pandemic. In an April 2020 survey from The Harris Poll, US adults said they were more frequently using social media (50%), virtual meeting sites (33%) and dating apps (11%).

Cobble Is a New App for Couples
ALLEYWATCH - Aug 21 - Designed for people in committed relationships, Cobble allows couples to plan fun dates. The interface provides a curated list of engaging, fun activities ranging from comedy shows to restaurant recommendations that couples can individually swipe on. When both people swipe right, the app then allows scheduling, booking reservations, and purchasing tickets. The app is available in New York city for now.

Dating Site Lets Jewish Moms Be Yentas
ATLANTA JEWISH TIMES - Aug 21 - JustKibbitz.com is a new dating site launching this fall that lets parents play matchmaker. "We want to bring the oldest form of dating online," said CEO and co-founder Jeffrey Kaplan. "And we're starting with Jewish moms." The dating site is basic, but effective. The parent logs in through Facebook, completes some profile basics, adds information about their single adult-age child, and are ready to start matching and messaging with other moms. Just weeks from going live, JustKibbitz is open for pre-signups.
