FORBES - "With the vaccines and other changes in the pandemic, people want to get back out there and date," said Logan Ury, director of relationship science at Hinge, citing her research into 2021 dating trends. "But we also understood that more than half of singles have FODA." "FODA," Ury explained, "is fear of dating again." "People need love. People need connection," said Wolfe Herd in her CNBC interview. "That does not go away, irrespective of the changing landscape of this pandemic so our business remains largely unaffected during this new wave." Bumble adapted during the pandemic using video and voice. Hinge has adopted this tech, too, but not with a nod to its competition. Its team said they found inspiration in Clubhouse and added voice to users' profiles.

AARP - Instead of seeking companionship on dating apps geared to the LBGTQ+ community, scammers are extorting others for cash or compromising photos. The fraud, called sextortion, has led the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to issue a warning after complaints from users of sites such as Grindr, Feeld and other dating apps. Typically, the offender poses as a potential partner on an LGBTQ+ dating app, sends their own explicit photos and asks for some in return. The scammer then threatens to share the images and conversation with the victim's friends, family or employer unless the target sends money, usually via a gift card.
OPW - Sean Lawrence, Director of Product at The Meet Group, has led the development of the company's video and gamification projects. Integrating gamification activities into live streaming video has stimulated the growth of customer engagement on The Meet Group's platforms. According to his experience, there are six ideals of gamification:
Comprehension - Does the user understand the feature?
Joy - Does the feature bring joy to the user?
Motivation - Will the user want to use the feature again?
Achievement - Is there a sense of accomplishment?
Cooperation - Are the viewers and streamers connecting?
Challenge - Does it prompt users to work towards new rewards?
The Meet Group has further leveraged virtual gifting into the gamification concept to drive engagement and monetization for streamers and audiences alike. Sean Lawrence provides intriguing insights into the application of gamification to streaming video for online dating platforms in the latest video in the LTR Conference series.
LTR stands for Love, Technology, Relationships and the online conference covers the Internet dating and Online Social Communities space. It is for members of IDEA and OSCA.
