BBC - The number of reported sexual offences linked to dating apps doubled between 2017 and 2020. Young people from across the UK have told BBC Three that their reports of sexual assault and harassment were ignored by dating apps. A survey carried out for new BBC Three documentary Dating's Dangerous Secrets, suggests a quarter of people who have used dating platforms in the last four years experienced sexual assault while on a date, whilst a third said they experienced harassment or abuse on a dating app. Of those who said they'd reported someone to the service, almost half said they were dissatisfied with the dating platform's response. Many of the free dating apps and platforms do not carry out mandatory identity verification, meaning anyone with a phone number and email address can sign up to their services. Tinder announced last year that they would roll out the option to verify your account on the platform, but this is currently still voluntary.

BUSTLE - Austin Kevitch launched Lox Club over the pandemic, after a bad breakup. "I was at the age where my grandma would joke, 'When are you going to bring home a nice Jewish girl?'", said Austin. While the members-only dating app is billed for "Jews with ridiculously high standards," it's really for anyone with a sense of humor. "I don't like dating apps; they're very inorganic and awkward," Kevitch says. "So I wanted to make a more fun, immersive experience where maybe you'll meet people as a byproduct and not take it so seriously."

YOUR STORY - Tanvi and Rishabh Gupta launched SwoonMe in the US and India as a voice-first dating app. "It is very easy to filter and completely change the way you look in profile photos but it's hard to fake your voice. A person's voice shows emotion, personality, sociability, and so much more", Tanvi explains. Tanvi moved to the US at the age of 16, for higher education and has an MBA degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She worked on Wall Street with Morgan Stanley and Citi Group. She also met her husband and moved to the Bay Area - joining Facebook to work on Messenger and Instagram for three years. When the pandemic hit, she felt it was time to move on from Facebook.

NEW YORK POST - A popular teen dating app named Yubo has come under fire after an investigation found it to be a cesspool of sexual harassment, racism and other sordid activities. "What I have heard about this site is sickening," said Chris Philp, Britain's minister for tech and the digital economy. A Times reporter spent 10 days posing as a 15-year-old on Yubo, which she noted didn't require an age verification. During her investigation, she claimed that users would frequently proposition her and ask for nude pics.

NEW YORK POST - Fourplay, a new dating app created by two New York City singles, allows friends to create joint profiles for double dates - and it has a 9K-person waitlist. The app's buddy system requires unanimity among the four people who share two profiles in order to proceed to a group chat, where the users brainstorm over a time and a place to meet for their double date.
