The founder, Heather Hopkins, was motivated to create Hulah due to her own disappointing experiences with online dating. Women on the app, called "ringleaders," can form a "fleet" of men they know, labeling them as 'has potential' or 'fully endorsed'. If a match is made, the app requires a five-minute video chat before text messaging to eliminate catfishing or dishonest profiles.
