BLOOMBERG LAW - A federal district court correctly invalidated two patents asserted against the maker of mobile gaming and dating app Kippo, the Federal Circuit ruled, agreeing that the patents covered abstract subject matter that's ineligible for protection. Trinity Info Media's US Patent Nos. 9,087,321 and 10,936,685 cover online polling technology that matches a user with other users based on their responses to questions. It accused app developer Covalentof infringing those patents in a Central District of California lawsuit, which was dismissed because the claimed inventions covered abstract processes.
