PAPER MAGAZINE - Apr 6 - When partners Amanda Wilson and David Epstein founded #Open in 2016, they sought to build a polyamorous dating app "by users for users." Recently, #Open was suspended from the Google Play app store for allegedly violating the company's "Sexual Content and Profanity policy." #Open submitted some routine changes to the app's ASO - AKA its app store optimization, which helps with an app's rankings and searchability. The keywords "threesomes," "3some," "DTF," and "kinky dates" were flagged by the store. "We're a small company. We have borrowed everything we have from friends and family and put it into this company," Wilson said. "It's just not okay to basically throw us out of their store and not have a dialogue or any real, tangible facts that we can look at."

Google Play Store Suspends Polyamory Dating App
VICE - Mar 16 - #open, an app for ethical non-monogamy, was suspended for violating the "Sexual Content and Profanity policy." Co-founders Amanda Wilson and David Epstein said that the company's product manager, Maile Maniliguis, submitted an update to the wording of their Google Play listing on March 4. They heard nothing from Google until two days later, when Google notified them that the app had been suspended and removed, citing violation of Google Play's "Sexual Content and Profanity policy." The notice specifically said that the app's title and full description were the parts in violation. The #open developers appealed the suspension, and are still waiting to hear back - but they say that this lost time is damaging.

Tinder User Uncovered New Tinder 'Platinum' Testing
MASHABLE - July 24 - An r/SwipeHelper subreddit user explained that they'd come across Tinder Platinum in an incognito Google Chrome tab on desktop. They saw the platinum choice on the sidebar. This isn't the first time users saw a glimpse of tests. In March, some received a pop-up for "Tinder Concierge," a $20 service that claims that a "team of experts" will help craft an enticing profile. As of now Tinder has two paid tiers: Plus and Gold.
Plus features include
- unlimited likes (as opposed to the free 100 per day)
- rewinding on profiles you may have accidentally disliked
- five Super Likes a day
- one Boost per month
- Passport - no ads
Gold has all those features, as well as
- the ability to see who likes you before you swipe
- Tinder's curated "top picks" for you.
Tinder Platinum includes all Gold features plus
- seeing who already likes you before you swipe
- messaging before matching
- being able to attach a message to a Super Like
- prioritized likes, meaning everyone you like will see you before non-Platinum members.

How COVID-19 Is Affecting Dating Apps for Singles
NEWSWEEK - Mar 18 - With more and more people practicing social distancing, it's unclear how exactly single people are supposed to date as concerns over COVID-19 become increasingly severe. These are the approaches that dating apps and services are taking. In a statement, Hinge wrote that users' safety was most important. On its website, it provided important tips from WHO, including social distancing, washing hands, avoiding face touching and staying up to date. Tinder is sharing a similar message with a new card that appears for swipers, adding that people should carry hand sanitizer and maintain distance during social events. The ethically-non-monogamous-focused dating app #Open is advising users in a message to not meet new partners in person and to instead make use of video and phone calls. Now is not the time to be making new connections," said #Open co-founder David Epstein.

Facebook Has Blocked Ads From a Queer and Polyamorous Dating App #Open
INSIDER - Feb 15 - Facebook said this was due to the advertisements' focus on sex, and said the app does not "reflect the global audience on our platform" because it allows for group relationships and hook-ups. In response, #open founder Amanda Wilson started a petition on Change.org (over 900 people have signed so far), asking the platform to "stop censoring and devaluing my relationship and the relationships of millions of other people looking for casual dates or interested in alternative relationship styles."
