Now Date.com Is Dead On Commission Junction

Posted on December 12, 2016

Datecom to matchmakercomOPW – Dec 12 – Date.com went down, along with other Avalanche Media products Gk2gk and Matchmaker.com a few weeks back now. Date.com now forwards to Matchmaker and Gk2gk is live again. The word on the grapevine is internal strife and a legal suit. Hopefully they can sort it out. Date.com and Matchmaker are hallmark dating sites. The company has suffered for not having a good mobile offering of late. Now Commission Junction is down, according to one of their affiliates. The following letter was sent out.
___

Subject: Commission Junction Advertiser Date.com (X) has been deactivated

Dear Valued Publisher,
Please be aware that Date.com, one of the advertisers you are joined to in the Commission Junction network, has been deactivated. While Date.com is deactivated, you will not receive commissions for traffic you drive via the advertiser's banners, text links, and/or other link types. Consequently, please replace these links as soon as possible with links from active advertisers. To view the links you are using that are generating traffic for Date.com but from which you are earning no revenue, go to the Invalid Links Generating Traffic Report.

During the advertiser's deactivation, you will still remain affiliated with Date.com if and when the advertiser reactivates its affiliate marketing program with Commission Junction. Once reactivated, Date.com will appear in My Advertisers in the Account Manager. You will receive another email from Commission Junction alerting you to the advertiser's reactivation.

To view all of your affiliated advertisers who have been deactivated from the Commission Junction network, go to the Deactivated Advertisers Report.

If you have further questions regarding the status of Date.com, please contact your Commission Junction account representative or Client Support.

Best regards,
Commission Junction

From affiliates perspective, this really sucks! Affiliates put a lot of work into getting SEO rank. The good ones (like the one who sent me the heads up on this) deserve to have more notice and more respect than 'oops, now we're not payin' ya.' I guess it comes with the territory, but still, we can surely do better by affiliates. No wonder they're running for the igaming hills.

In Online Dating, Size Doesn’t Matter

Posted on February 12, 2013

Online dating41US NEWS – Feb 12 – "It's a lot easier to sustain an online dating service if you open it up in the niche marketplace than if you open it up as a general online dating service," says Joe Tracy, publisher of Online Dating Magazine. People who belong to and are seeking out a particular demographic are often content to stick to these small, specialty outlets, even if a larger competitor might also have some potential matches. 99% of online dating sites that open up to compete with the Match.coms and the eHarmonies will fail within two years. The failure rate for niche sites is still high but still better than the general dating ones. One site that has thrived is Geek 2 Geek, whose owner says that the site had its most profitable and fastest-growth year in 2012. Currently, ~350K people have profiles on his site, ~100,000-150,000 are active users. Tracy says that vegetarian dating sites tend to be particularly strong, and single baby boomers are also a fast-growing demographic.

Curious US Dating Forums Boom on the Internet

Posted on July 11, 2011

Ivydate logo MCCLATCHY TRIBUNE – July 10 – The internet dating market in the United States is booming: more and more websites are targetting particular social groups, and such specialization brings with it many curiosities. Geek2Geek.com is one of the countless US dating websites aimed at a niche. There is also Ivydate.com, named after the academically elitist Ivy League. At Horseloversconnection.com owning a horse is no must, although profile photos often show one. JDate.com, aimed mainly at the Jewish community, is one of the oldest niche-targetting sites. As of last year, there were "more than 1,500 dating sites" in the country, according to Mark Brooks, an advisor to several such sites. "Many of the new sites are niche dating sites," Brooks says.

Online Dating For Nerds

Posted on February 11, 2011

Geek2geek logo PC WORLD – Feb 11 – Geek 2 Geek calls itself "the best place on the net to meet geeks." It boasts ~200K members, growing by 6K members each month. OtakuBooty is for fans of anime, manga, gaming, and cosplay. OtakuBooty is part online dating and part social networking. The name comes from a Japanese slang term for "nerd". Cupidtino describes itself as the first (and only) "Mac-inspired" dating site. That's right–if you love Apple products and the people who love Apple products, this site is for you. On Sweet on Geeks you can expect to find geeks, especially girl geeks. The 27K-member site is particularly balanced in the male-to-female ratio, unlike a lot of places on the Internet. OKCupid, a completely free dating site, is full of young singles–~70% of its users are between the ages of 18 and 35. On OKCupid, 55% of the users are men. FULL ARTICLE @ PC WORLD
